Maynard is a small town with a history of industrial development. Over one million sq. ft of mill space was built by Assabet Woolen Mill in the mid 1800s and is currently occupied by businesses. Maynard is both rural and suburban, with a well-defined commercial downtown, open space and a thriving artistic community.
